Bayview Sports – High Performance Centre
A key question underpinning the development of the Bayview Sports – High Performance Centre was: how can we play our part in building community based, grassroots junior development programs that open doors for local students to reach elite athlete levels?
How do we develop more students like our ex-student Tim Paine, currently playing cricket for Australia in the Ashes! How can more students from Tasmania play like the best while being supported to achieve academically and vocationally?
The concept is new for Tassie but not around Australia. We have looked closely at systems that support junior sports development around Australia and internationally and we know that where close partnerships exist between sports organizations and colleges the opportunity for students to reach elite levels dramatically increases.
Being a year 11/12 extension school we have a unique opportunity to offer athlete development right through the college in the one place, with a strong partnership with the sports club. Sports subjects accessible from year ten will provide accredited points towards university entry and the achievement of the TCE. We accept enrolments from year 7 through to year 12.
Our founding partner, Lauderdale Football Club, are very enthusiastic about the concept and agree the partnership will support students to reach elite levels while encouraging strong academic and vocational success. In fact all of the clubs and codes we have spoken to are excited about this partnership and the benefits to sporting students through this program. High performance will be a key focus which will translate for the students onto the sports field and into the classroom.
