Teena Dunstan

Teena is the Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning and the Head of English at Bayview Secondary College. 

She is passionate about lifelong learning which is evident in her daily interactions with students and wanting them to strive to be the best they can be. Teena relishes working closely with the dynamic teaching team at Bayview to ensure all students have their individual learning needs met.

As the Instructional Coach Teena has been responsible for a significant improvement in student literacy results. Bayview achieved top 4 in the state of highest literacy growth in NAPLAN results for grade 9 students over the past five years. She has also worked across the school to improve numeracy results which are at national level. 

Teena has been invited to contribute to Literacy forums with ACARA and frequently leads professional learning opportunities for staff. Last year Teena attended the EduTech Conference in Sydney to lead the integration of Digital Technologies into the Bayview school wide curriculum.

She led and managed the Student Support team at Bayview ensuring both students and families are cared for and supported. Throughout her teaching career she has always put the student and their wellbeing at the centre of the learning experience.

During her twenty-two-year teaching career Teena has succeeded in senior leadership positions in both public and private schools in Tasmania and Victoria. 

She commenced her career journey at Launceston College in 1997, teaching Grades 11-12 TCE pre-tertiary, non-pre-tertiary and VET (Vocational Education & Training) subjects. While at Launceston College she co-ordinated and taught the internationally recognised International Baccalaureate Diploma. She also co-ordinated the CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) component and taught IB History, Theory of Knowledge and was an Extended Essay mentor during this time. 

In 2004 she moved to Victoria to establish and implement the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Grades 11 and 12 at Kardinia International College in Geelong, a Grade K-12 school. 

In 2006, with the IB Diploma Programme successfully in place in Kardinia International College‚Äôs curriculum and missing the Tassie vibe, Teena returned to Tasmania taking up a leadership position at  Rosetta High School and then formed part of the new senior leadership team at Montrose Bay High School as English/Humanities Learning Area Convenor and acting Assistant Principal.

In 2011 Teena moved to Bayview Secondary College and has since then been an integral member of the senior leadership and teaching team. 

With a first-class Honours degree in History and Geography, Teena has a keen interest in local, national and world History. She has a strong sense of social justice and access to a quality education for all young people.
